The Calling Remains even when your purpose feels unclear
When You Want to Quit: The Power of Staying Still While Moving Forward
As moms balancing family life with entrepreneurship, we often find ourselves caught in a whirlwind of emotions—tired, unsure, overwhelmed, or simply frustrated that our businesses aren't growing at the pace we'd hoped. These feelings, while uncomfortable, are completely normal parts of our journey. God created emotions for a purpose, and recognizing them helps us understand what's happening within us. The key is not to eliminate these feelings but to avoid dwelling in them permanently.
Recently, I've been navigating these emotional waters myself, working through the uncertainty and occasional irritation that comes with building a business while raising little ones. If you're wondering why you're doing what you're doing or questioning if you're on the right path, I want to remind you of something crucial:
"Your calling didn’t come from you—it came directly from God."
This truth should serve as your anchor when doubts begin to surface. God has intentionally placed you in this season, with your specific vision and purpose, for reasons that may not be fully clear to you yet.
The message I feel compelled to share today centers around a seemingly contradictory principle: keep going, even when everything within you wants to stop or change direction, but simultaneously, stay still. This paradox forms the foundation of sustainable faith-based entrepreneurship.
Keeping going means taking action in faith, even when the path forward seems uncertain or frightening. It means continuing to do the last thing God instructed you to do until new guidance comes. However, staying still is equally important—creating space in your busy schedule to connect with God, whether that's ten minutes or twenty (because let's be honest, with young children, two hours of uninterrupted prayer time simply isn't realistic for most of us).
Trusting God's timing represents one of the greatest challenges for ambitious mompreneurs. When progress feels painfully slow, remember:
"God works according to His perfect timeline—not yours."
Scripture promises that He works all things together for our good and His glory. This promise gets referenced frequently because it provides such powerful reassurance during seasons of waiting and uncertainty. Our fears, anxieties, and doubts—while real—pale in comparison to God's power and faithfulness to His promises.
As Christian entrepreneurs, we operate differently from the world around us. We don't make decisions based on fleeting emotions or temporary circumstances—we make them based on our faith in Christ, the guidance of the Holy Spirit, and our commitment to do the next right thing. Self-control, one of the fruits of the Spirit, enables us to govern our feelings rather than being governed by them. This doesn't make the emotions disappear, but it does put them in their proper place—as indicators, not dictators.
My encouragement to you today is simple yet profound: keep stepping forward despite your fears and doubts. God remains faithful even when our faith falters. Continue asking Him to show you what to do and where to go. If you're diligently creating space for that "staying still" part of the equation, you'll be positioned to receive His guidance.
Perhaps you don't know the next step because you haven't completed the current one, or maybe you're trying to rush ahead (a tendency I frequently struggle with myself).
God's faithfulness doesn't waver with the seasons—in fact, it often shines brightest during the difficult periods when the path forward seems obscured.
"You are not alone in this journey—God is with you in every season."
Bring all your frustrations and uncertainties to Him, surrender them at His feet, and then trust that He will guide you faithfully. You are exactly where you are because God called you there—not because you made it up or chose it arbitrarily. Keep your focus on Him as you move forward in faith, resting in His perfect timing.
Your Next Step
Today, I challenge you to identify one small step you can take toward your calling, even if you don't feel completely ready. Is there something God has already asked you to do that you've been avoiding? Or perhaps there's a task you abandoned because it wasn't producing results as quickly as you'd hoped? Return to that work with renewed dedication.
And if you're already faithfully doing what He's asked, keep going. Take comfort in knowing you're walking with the One who never leaves your side.
