From Homeschool Mom to Podcasting CEO: How Demetria Zinga Balanced Business and Babies

The journey of balancing motherhood with entrepreneurial ambitions is one many women navigate, often feeling they must choose between these two callings. Demetria Zinga, founder of Soul Podcasting Collective, proves that pursuing both is not only possible but can be incredibly rewarding. As a former homeschool mom turned full-time solopreneur, her story offers valuable insights for mothers who feel that entrepreneurial pull while raising their children.

Throughout her entrepreneurial journey, Demetria emphasized that she felt called to both home and business. This dual calling created a constant challenge: how to honor both roles without sacrificing either.

"I can't shake the career business driven side of me, but I also really wanted to be on the home front with my babies."
— Demetria Zinga

For many Christian mompreneurs, this tension feels familiar – that entrepreneurial drive doesn't simply disappear when children arrive. Instead, it shifts and adapts, seeking expression in new ways that can complement family life.

The practical realities of building a business while raising children required significant dedication and creativity. Demetria shared how she would wake up at 5 AM, work during nap times, and schedule business calls around her children's schedules. This wasn’t always easy, but her passion for her work made the effort worthwhile.

"It's just a matter of like how important is this to me? And for me it was a passion."

This perspective shift is crucial – when something matters deeply, you find ways to incorporate it into your life, even during busy seasons of motherhood.

Community emerged as another essential element in Demetria's success story. As a military spouse who moved frequently, finding supportive connections with like-minded entrepreneurs became a lifeline.

"Being in isolation is not an option when you're in business."

She mentioned the importance of "rubbing elbows with others that are in the same boat" whether virtually or in person. For mompreneurs especially, having others who understand the unique challenges of balancing business with family responsibilities provides both practical support and emotional encouragement.

Mindset hurdles represented significant challenges throughout Demetria’s entrepreneurial journey. As an introvert who didn’t initially see herself as a leader, she had to work through personality issues, learn to set boundaries, and develop her authority. These weren’t overnight transformations but gradual developments that came through self-reflection and a willingness to change.

Her evolution from shy introvert to podcast mentor is proof that we can grow beyond self-imposed limitations when we’re pursuing our God-given callings.

For mothers considering podcasting as a business avenue, Demetria offers practical advice:

"Ease into it."

Starting with just 1–2 hours per week, beginning with short solo episodes, and gradually building consistency can make podcasting manageable even in busy seasons. By starting small – perhaps monthly episodes – and increasing frequency as you get more comfortable, you create space for growth while honoring your current family responsibilities.

But perhaps the most powerful takeaway from Demetria’s story is her encouragement to believe in the gifts God has placed within you.

"Believe in what you have been gifted by God to do. Don't give up, because if you just continue to follow that passion like a guiding light, you will get where you're supposed to go."

This long-view perspective recognizes that our entrepreneurial journeys may span decades, with different seasons allowing for different levels of involvement. The key is to keep following that inner calling, trusting that it was placed there for a divine purpose.
